Being an introvert often makes it difficult for me to walk up to strangers and ask for their photos. An introvert’s life is always about maintaining balance. If you are an introvert photographer like me, you’re not alone in this. So, how do we work in a world that seems more suited to extrovert photographers? No one likes to pretend to be someone they’re not, and when they’re working in a field that requires them to be imaginative, it might set them back with their creativity because they’re censoring who they really are. Photographers don’t have to be extroverted for artistic or financial success, but there are many qualities that an introvert has that give them a distinct advantage if they learn how to embraced it.
Anyone can be a photographer! Just because I don’t often interact with people, doesn’t mean I’m avoiding them. I love to take photographs of people and capture different emotions, but sometimes too much interaction can be overwhelming for me. For introverts like me who want to overcome your difficulties of interacting with people, you’re going to need to focus on getting yourself out into the world more. Convincing yourself to get out into the world will help artists get more used to spending time with people. Don’t miss out on opportunities. To improve on your social skills, photographers should try to find small local groups with other artists. You can then start small with a group of people and maybe you’ll find another introvert like yourself to work with. Photographers should connect with interesting artists, and perhaps you will be able to make new friends.
Next, you need to be able to sell yourself. You need to be able to persuade people to participate in your photography projects, sell your photos, or run your own business. The key to promote yourself is to work with your instincts, overcome some obstacles and create a marketing method that works for you. When you see other photographers on social media, do they seem to be getting more followers than you do? That’s because they are getting themselves out there; they’re talking, they’re motivated and they know how to sell themselves naturally. Selling is not about making money. It’s about persuading people of what you’ll be able to offer to them. The more you are surrounded by people, the more chances you’ll be able to offer your photography skills to others. When your work is good, other people will help sell it for you.
Once you got some great photography works, start by putting your portfolio up on your own website. Your website should have a description of what your service can offer people and your portfolio for people to check it out. If they like what they see on your website, they will want to hire you. With a website and portfolio of your photography, you don’t have to sell yourself. Let people come to you. You can succeed among others as an introvert photographer and run a successful photography business when you are able to overcome your challenges to photograph people.
